If Gen. Stanley McChrystal expressed views in the Rolling Stone article are what he believes then he should resign.
By resigning on principal, he can be a voice for the opposition to this government’s direction.
If however he meets with the president and lets the president direct his future, his views and beliefs have no weight or merit.
